The family prefers donations to a journalism network instead of flowers.

SKUP leader John Kristian Bones passed away on Monday, May 13th after a long illness. The industry paid tribute to the SKUP leader and he has been described as "One of the most important members of the SKUP family".

Outside the chapel, both family and several industry colleagues were present.

Instead of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Global Investigative Journalism Network.

Later today, there will also be a memorial gathering at the Press House in downtown Oslo.

– There will be many mourning the loss of an inspiring and kind colleague with a passionate heart for investigative journalism in both Norway and abroad, said Jan Gunnar Furuly to Medier24 shortly after the death was announced.

Bones was open about being affected by cancer and was on sick leave last year.

Right before Christmas last year, he told Journalisten that he was diagnosed with cancer in late summer.

He worked at VG from 1993 to 2016, holding positions as a journalist, chief of watch, project manager, and department head.

Bones also has a background as a journalist and editorial manager at Adresseavisen.

Bones was born on September 7, 1954, in Trondheim. He leaves behind five adult children.
